Various types of glasswork have always been an indispensable part of the smoking culture. Back in the day, it was all about classic pipes and bongs, but recently we’ve started exploring more complex glass contraptions with added percolators to make the smoking process even smoother. Somewhere in between, Bubblers came into existence.

Bubblers are not necessarily a new way to enjoy your smoking habit, but surprisingly, many people are not familiar with them. Today we are going to cover some basic information in order to give you a better understanding of what bubbler pipes are and how you should use them. Stick around and find out if a bubbler is something you’re missing in your arsenal of glass smoking products.

A Brief History Lesson

Bongs and pipes have a long-lasting history in the smoking culture that dates a couple of thousand years. The first ever recorded evidence of devices similar to bongs and pipes was found in Russia. It is believed that leaders of Scythian tribes smoked through golden bongs during rituals. This was 2400 years ago.

Some predecessors to modern bongs include a bamboo device that Thai people utilized for smoking purposes. Wooden pipes have also been around for as long as history remembers, used both in ceremonial and recreational circumstances. The bubbler, however, came much later as a combination of the two.

The Basics of Bubblers

Simply put, bubbler pipes are a hybrid device between pipes and bongs. They borrow a little bit from both concepts, resulting in a handy little smoking tool. In a sense, they are much smaller, portable bongs that are about the size of a pipe. Transportation is much easier as you can just put them in your pocket or your bag and take them with you anywhere you go.

While they are much smaller than traditional bongs, bubblers use water in a very similar fashion. Modern bubblers are preferably made out of glass and can feature some really fascinating designs. Glass doesn’t affect the taste or aroma as much as other materials like wood or clay can.

How to Use Bubbler Pipes?

Considering we mentioned that water bubbler pipes work in a similar fashion to their bigger brothers, bongs, using them properly will be second nature if you already had experience with their substantially larger counterparts. However, for those who are not familiar with bongs, here’s a quick guide on how to enjoy bubbler pipes.

Fill the water chamber with ice cold water and place your favorite smokable substance into the bowl piece. Your model might have a small hole on the side that’s also called a “carb.” You’ll want to cover the carb with your finger before drawing smoke.

Place your mouth over the mouthpiece, light the bowl, keep your finger on the carb, and inhale. Once you almost reach the maximum capacity of your lungs, take the finger off the carb and inhale the rest of the smoke from the water chamber. Proceed to repeat this action and enjoy those silky smooth hits.

The main advantages of using a bubbler are their mobility, ease-of-use, discretion, and the smooth smoking experience that’s guaranteed.
